Curious what’s actually working for people on listings right now vs the usual recycled advice. I’ll start with what moved my numbers, ranked by impact:
- Main image. Boring but #1. Went from a mediocre product shot to a crisp, fills-the-frame, pure white background image and CTR jumped noticeably. Everything downstream improves when more people click.
- Title that leads with the actual product + primary keyword, not a keyword salad. Readability converts.
- First two bullets = benefits, not specs. People skim. Lead with what they get, not the dimensions.
- A+ Content (need Brand Registry) - reduced my return rate because people understood the product before buying. Underrated.
- Reviews/rating obviously, but that’s downstream of the above being good.
What’s in your top 3?
Co-sign the main image being #1 by a mile. It’s the single biggest lever on click-through and people obsess over keywords while using a dim phone photo.
My addition: A+ Content done right. Not just pretty banners - I use it to pre-empt the questions that cause returns and negative reviews. “How do I clean it,” “what’s in the box,” “will it fit X.” Answer those in the A+ and your reviews and return rate both improve. Also the comparison chart module to cross-sell my own catalog.
for keywords where are people actually putting them now? like do the backend search terms still matter or is it all in the title/bullets
@sidehustlesara both still matter. My approach:
- Title + bullets: your most important, most human-readable keywords woven in naturally.
- Backend search terms field: the rest - synonyms, common misspellings, alternate phrasings - no commas needed, don’t repeat words you already ranked for, stay within the byte limit.
- A+ Content text is also indexed in some ways but treat it as conversion, not keyword stuffing.
Don’t keyword-stuff the visible copy. Indexing for a term and converting on it are two different jobs - bullets do the second job.
Slightly different angle: the highest-ROI “optimization” I ever did was simply not going out of stock on my hero SKU. All the listing polish in the world doesn’t help when you’re suppressed for being unavailable and you lose your rank. Conversion optimization assumes you’re actually in stock. Inventory IS marketing.
@logistics_lena that’s a mic drop and 100% true. losing rank from a stockout undid months of optimization for me once. ranking is rented, not owned.
