AI for PPC - making sense of search term reports without losing your mind

PPC in my category is a data firehose - thousands of search terms across campaigns. I started using AI to help triage the search term report and it’s cut my weekly PPC time way down. Rough workflow: export the report, paste it in, and ask it to flag terms with high spend + no/low sales to cut, and converting terms to pull into exact-match. Anyone else automating the analysis side?

Yes, with a big asterisk: AI is great at the ANALYSIS and pattern-spotting, terrible if you let it ‘manage’ your account blindly. How I use it:

  • Paste the search term report, ask for: top wasted-spend terms, top converting terms not yet harvested, and any obvious negative-keyword candidates
  • Ask it to explain WHY, so I’m learning not just following
  • I make the actual bid/budget decisions myself

It turns a 2-hour spreadsheet slog into a 20-minute review. But the strategy and the spending decisions stay with me. It’s an analyst, not a manager.

the danger with AI + PPC is people who dont understand PPC using it to pretend they do. if you cant read a search term report yourself, you cant tell when the AI is wrong - and on ads, wrong = your money on fire, fast. learn the fundamentals (acos, converting vs wasted terms, match types) THEN let AI speed you up. tool amplifies skill, it doesnt replace it. weve said that about software too and its doubly true when real ad dollars are moving.

i mostly agree but the speed-up is real even for experienced sellers. i KNOW how to read the report, i just hate spending sunday doing it for 12 campaigns. AI does the first pass triage, i review and decide. same as everything else - first 80% machine, last 20% me. just dont be the person in mikes warning whos letting it drive without knowing how to steer.

this is reassuring and intimidating at the same time lol. sounds like the move is: actually learn ppc basics first (so i can sanity check it), THEN use AI to save time. not use AI to skip learning it. noted. adding ‘learn to read a search term report’ to my list before i lean on the AI for it
